Deben Discovery; Paintings and pictures @ The Longshed Gallery

An exhibition of artwork showing the River Deben in all its glory. The principle exhibit is two, approximately 34 feet long paintings, showing both banks of the river from Woodbridge to Bawdsey by Dr Dorothy Winterbon Wells, who owned a converted boat cabin on stilts known as The Puritan at Felixstowe Ferry. The whole family would holiday there every summer and during the summers of 1966 and 1967 whilst staying at The Puritan she decided to paint in watercolour the River Deben from both banks on two very long scrolls of plain wallpaper. She walked the river banks and used a canoe or small dinghy to access the different locations.

These remarkable paintings will form the centrepiece of our exhibition and you will be able to walk between the two linear pictures seeing both sides of the river as you pass through. “The Deben Scrolls” have been loaned to WRT by Marion Wells and her brother Ed.

Also on display will be art work by members of the Woodbridge Art Club, Local Artist Claudia Myatt, Members of Woodbridge Arts Club, also paintings by five other artists and  photographs by members of the Woodbridge Camera club all showing places of interest along the river
